The Paris 2024 Olympics, Paralympic Games, and Youth Olympic Games will keep 13 million spectators entertained across 35 competition sites. The Paris Games and its opening and closing ceremonies will be broadcast globally through more than 100,000 hours of television coverage. To celebrate their centennial anniversary (France last hosted in 1924), Paris 2024 will be the biggest sporting event in the world.<\/p>\n

Open-Air Opening and Closing Ceremony for the Summer Games<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The opening and closing ceremony for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be held outside of an Olympic stadium for the first time in the history of the Summer Games.\u00a0 Set to take place on the Seine River, the opening ceremony parade of nations will be a 163-boat flotilla passing through some of the Paris iconic landmarks like Notre Dame cathedral, the Louvre, and the Eiffel Tower. And what\u2019s more is that, unlike other opening ceremonies that had high-priced tickets for the opening ceremony, spectators can watch this spectacular opening and closing ceremony for free on the quays along the river!<\/p>\n

The Entire City is a Stadium After the Opening Ceremony!<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Paris 2024 will be nothing like past games that had fixed indoor stadiums. If the open-air opening ceremony doesn’t spell it out, perhaps the Paris 2024 Game venues will.\u00a0 The organizers made the entire city of Paris the center of attention. The beach volleyball venue is at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. And the equestrian competition for Paris 2024?\u00a0 Well, that\u2019s taking place at the Palace of Versailles!<\/p>\n

Olympic Games Language Facts<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Games Have Two Official Languages<\/strong><\/h3>\n

English and French are the official languages of the Olympics. Depending on where the games are hosted, adding a third official language (that of the host country) is standard for the games according to the International\u00a0 Olympic Committee. However, seeing that the games are being held in France, there will be only two official languages used in the 2024 games.<\/p>\n

The Reason Why French is an Official Olympic Language<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The French International Organization of la Francophonie is in charge of ensuring that the French language<\/a> gets its due at the Olympic Games. This language watchdog is called le Grand T\u00e9moin, which means \u201cthe Great Witness.\u201d<\/p>\n

The reason for this, and French being an official language of the International Olympic Committee, is because the original Olympics were hosted in ancient Greece between 8BCE and 4 AD. The modern games are a revival of this ancient tradition, and it was revived by a Frenchman, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, in 1896. As part of the revival process, he wrote the French language requirements for the Games.<\/p>\n

The 2020 Olympic and Youth Olympic Games Gave Many Countries Their Own Samurai Characters<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Japanese artists created anime samurai characters that represented the majority of countries that competed in the 2020 Olympic Games in Japan. This was called the World Flags Project and saw each character receiving its own persona and backstory to represent the country in question\u2019s unique cultural elements as well as their national flag. We\u2019re excited to see what the French and the International Olympic Committee have in mind for Paris to beat this Japanese initiative!<\/p>\n

Translators and Interpreters Have Front-Row Seats<\/strong><\/h3>\n
